Shopee Now Takes TNG eWallet via DuitNow QR
Shopee users in Malaysia have been asking for it for years, and it finally happened: you can now pay for your Shopee orders with TNG eWallet. The option went live on August 11, 2026, and TNG Digital is running a promotion until December 31, 2026. But read the fine print before you celebrate — this is not a native TNG eWallet integration. It rides on Malaysia's national QR standard, DuitNow QR, and that matters more than most people realize.
A long wait, with a catch
Touch 'n Go has been one of Malaysia's most-used e-wallets for years, yet Shopee kept listing it — and Boost, for that matter — as an unsupported payment method. The new DuitNow QR option sidesteps that entirely. Instead of wiring up a direct integration, Shopee piggybacks on DuitNow QR, the interoperable QR standard operated by Payments Network Malaysia (PayNet) that lets you pay any participating merchant with any participating bank or e-wallet app.
That is genuinely useful, but it is also a workaround. You are not paying Shopee "directly" with TNG eWallet in the way you would with SPay or a card. You are using the national payment rail, which happens to be the one rail both Shopee and TNG Digital already sit on. It gets the job done; it just adds a step.
How the payment flow works
There are two ways to pay, and both start the same way: on the payment page, select DuitNow QR before confirming your order. Shopee generates a QR code, and then you choose how to scan it.
# Path A — save the QR, pay in the TNG eWallet app
1. Select "DuitNow QR" at checkout
2. Save the generated QR code to your gallery
3. Open TNG eWallet → Scan → pick the QR from your gallery
4. Check the amount + merchant "Shopee Marketplace", confirm
# Path B — pay immediately with Universal Scan
1. Select "DuitNow QR" at checkout
2. Open TNG eWallet → Universal Scan → scan the code on screen
3. Check the amount + merchant "Shopee Marketplace", confirm
Once the QR is scanned, TNG eWallet shows the exact payment amount with Shopee Marketplace listed as the merchant. You confirm, and the purchase is done. The flow is a little clunkier than tapping a wallet at checkout — it is effectively the same interaction as paying a physical store's DuitNow QR — but for a platform that previously accepted no TNG wallet payments at all, it is a start.
Cashback: read the fine print
The integration also unlocks TNG eWallet's Shop & Earn cashback for Shopee purchases. Eligible orders earn 1% cashback, capped at RM6.67 per order, and cashback is typically tracked within two days and confirmed within 14.
There are strings attached, and a long list of them. You must enter Shopee through the Shop & Earn page before buying — walking in through the regular app route does not count. And a lot of purchases are excluded: digital goods, telco and utility payments, vouchers, travel, donations, cinema and event tickets, local services, investments, and ShopeePay Near Me transactions. Shopee LIVE products, streaming-priced items, and anything bought with promo codes or vouchers not featured on the Shop & Earn platform are also out. Fees, taxes, service charges, shipping, and delivery costs never qualify either. So treat the 1% as a nice-to-have, not a strategy.
The rest of the payment menu
For context, here is where TNG eWallet fits into the full checkout menu. Besides the new DuitNow QR option, Shopee Malaysia still accepts its own SPay wallet, cash at physical stores and on delivery, credit and debit cards, online banking, Google Pay, and Apple Pay. Online banking covers Maybank, CIMB, RHB, Public Bank, Hong Leong Bank, HSBC, Bank Islam, Bank Rakyat, OCBC, and UOB, among others. Eligible shoppers can also split payments across months with card instalments or Shopee's first-party SPayLater.
Why the DuitNow QR rail is the real story
If you are a developer, the interesting bit is not the cashback. It is that the path of least resistance into Shopee — one of the biggest e-commerce platforms in the country — turned out to be PayNet's national QR standard rather than yet another bilateral e-wallet agreement. DuitNow QR is designed precisely for this: one QR, every participant, no per-merchant integrations to negotiate. It is an EMVCo-compliant, real-time payment rail, already plastered on coffee shop counters and pasar malam stalls across the country. Shopee's own ShopeePay joined the DuitNow ecosystem back in 2021, so the rails were already warm — this announcement is really just one more app plugging into the same socket.
The tradeoff is UX: a checkout that used to be two taps now involves scanning a QR with a second app. That is the price of interoperability, and it is the same pattern we keep seeing across Malaysia's digital economy — convenience is handed to the platform, not the user, and your payment data flows through another party. It echoes the privacy tradeoffs we discussed when WhatsApp started shifting how it handles usernames and account data. If you shop on Shopee with TNG eWallet, enjoy the fact that the two ecosystems finally talk to each other — and keep an eye on the exclusions list. The coverage is still a workaround, not a full native integration, but it is a big step toward every app accepting every wallet.
